Two-thirds through this podcast, and it’s already one of my favorites so far! I really appreciate the historical information these guys are disseminating here. There’s a real dearth of organized info out there in regard to early Buchla practitioners, and to this end I’ve always wanted to know precisely which Studios/Universities (or even just how many) incorporated Buchla systems in the 60s/70s.
Besides the relatively well documented San Fran Tape Music Ctr/Mills Tape Ctr, the other “well known” Buchla studio that begs analysis/review is Morton Subotnick’s off-campus NYU studio where perhaps the most voluminous and arguably the most important Buchla 100 pieces were composed and recorded including work by Laurie Spiegel, Eliane Radigue, Rhys Chatham, Charlemagne Palestine, Harold Budd, Serge Tcherepnin, Subotnick’s own classic albums, etc.
Might make a good topic to explore in this podcast, although there’s so much undocumented history there, it could easily turn into a series of shows in it’s own right.
I hope Flynn and Milanovich will make their historical research available, along with the instrument reproduction info (that I’m also champing at the bit over).
Is there a photo of the 132? I don’t see one on the M.E.M.S. site either.
